A reminder of our shared obligation – behaving well on the beach

Surf Carnivals are exciting and enjoyable events, but recent history has shown that when there is a rare occurrence of inappropriate behaviour by competitors, club officials or family members there is almost always severe and long term consequences, including significant financial costs at club level and emotional costs across all those involved. Additionally we cannot underestimate the impact this has on our younger competitors.

Kiosk

The kiosk will be open Friday 12 January 12pm until 7pm

We have Nippers this evening at Mentone. 

We will be spending a lot of time in the water.

Meet at the grassy area and we will go to the water from there. 

The next Friday nippers is 19 January.

We will move back to Sundays for Nippers starting in February.

The Australian Pool Lifesaving Championships 2024 (APLSC) kicks off in just one week!

Taking place from the 18th - 20th January at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, #APLSC2024 will showcase elite and emerging talent from across Australia.

The championships bring athletes, teams, volunteers, and staff together for three days of competition both in the water (speed events) and out of water (initiative tests & CPR).

Mentone LSC is hosting an RSA course for members and guests aged 18 and over (or nearly 18) who would like to work in the bar at the club over summer in paid and volunteer roles.

The course is being held at Mentone LSC but is facilitated by LiqCon so there are two steps required:

1. Complete this Trybooking and pay
2. You will receive an email after you have paid with a link to LiqCon which you need to use to register with them.

When: Tuesday 30th January 2024 6-10pm

Where: Mentone Life Saving Club

Cost: $65

We are looking to expand our operations volunteer group. The group will receive updates on opportunities to help with upcoming club tasks. You will not need to attend committee meetings and no emails, all communications will be through TeamApp.

Below are a few of the projects and jobs that currently being undertaken.

• Set up and staffing of the Mentone Merchandise showroom and shop
  
• Assist with training / supervision of young staff in hospitality roles
• Joining our regular building crew (salt wash downs of beach facing glass, doors and windows, minor maintenance, basic mechanical servicing of equipment, etc.) 
• Crewing our Nipper Sunday Sausage Sizzles - collecting bread and muffins for the kiosk
• Helping with our planned club social events, swims and other fundraisers, etc.
• Promoting our fabulous members - photo journalism or blogging
  

We know many members want to get involved in the club but have significant constraints on commiting to a beach role or going on a committee. By joining this group you pick what you can do and when, while meeting members and having fun!

Mentone LSC U13-Open competed last weekend at the Jim Wall Classic, a Summer of Surf event, at Torquay. 

The Mentone LSC Team had great performances across all ages groups. 

Our Team finished first in overall Team Points!

We encourage our Nippers to develop and practice their skills with our formal training sessions and also on their own. Over the holiday period your Nipper will be able to use boards as long as the club is open. The club will be open during patrols on Saturday and Sundays 10am to 6pm during January.

If you are using boards, please make sure to handle with care (especially while on hard surfaces) and rinse with fresh water before returning to the rack.
