About Pool Lifesaving

At Mentone Life Saving Club, we invite members aged Under 8 to Masters to dive into the exciting world of Pool Lifesaving, coordinated by Life Saving Victoria (LSV).

This program runs during the off-season from summer lifesaving activities and provides a fantastic way to maintain fitness and learn valuable new lifesaving skills that complement those acquired over the summer.

Pool Lifesaving Carnivals are held throughout the year at state and national levels. Members can choose to compete or just come to training to learn the skills.

Pool Lifesaving Events

The events at pool lifesaving are directly related rescue techniques and include:

  • Line throw - involves throwing a rope to a partner in the water and pulling them to the pool edge.
  • Tube rescues - involves swimming with the tube, clip it onto a mannikin and swim back to safety.
  • Mannikin carry - requires the rescuer to swim to the mannikin and return to the wall while safely "saving" the mannikin.
  • Obstacle race – involves swimming under two submerged barriers (known as obstacles)
