The following awards are not granted by Mentone LSC but our members who meet the relevant criteria are invited to make an application for the nationally recognised awards listed below.

SLSA Awards
National Patrol Service Award
SLSA has established National Patrol Service Certificates, which are available to members of Affiliated Clubs in recognition of their long service to lifesaving patrols.
These Patrol Service Awards are for a minimum of 5 years patrol service, with increments of 5 years up to a 70 year patrol service award.

Application Process
This application may be lodged by either the member, or the member’s current club/service via the SLSA Members Area Using ‘Forms’
To make your application please follow these steps:
- Login to your Members’ Portal
- Under the Tab “Forms”, select Add submission
- Select National Patrol Service Award and then Add Submission
- Select the number of years in which you completed at least 16 hours of patrol
- You will see a summary of your patrol hours over the seasons since Surfguard came into existence (around 2004)
- If you are requesting a service award that includes patrols prior to 2004 you will need to provide evidence of your service. This may include:
- Reference from old Annual Reports
- Copies from paper patrol logs
- Please contact NSA@slsa.asn.au to make further enquiries regarding proof of service.
The National Medal
The National Medal was established by the Commonwealth of Australia in 1975 as one of the original elements of the distinctive Australian system of honours and awards. The medal recognises long service in organisations that protect life and property at some risk to their members.
The National Medal is available to eligible Surf Life Saving Australia members who have completed a minimum of 30 patrol hours each season, for a minimum period of 15 full years (5,480 days) * from 18th September 1986. The National Medal criteria is determined by Government regulation, not SLSA and therefore cannot be relaxed or altered.

- As Surfguard came into existence (around 2004) you will need to provide evidence of your service. This may include:

National Long Service Award
SLSA has long service awards to recognise members for their sustained contribution to SLS.
These long service awards are awarded for:
- 25 years Long Service
- 30 years Long Service
- 40 years Long Service
- 50 years Long Service
- 60 years Long Service
- 70 years Long Service
- 75 years Long Service

- Select the appropriate number of years of service
