Why Do I Need A WWCC?
Mentone Life Saving Club and Life Saving Victoria (LSV) are committed to the Safeguarding of Children and Young People (SCYP) and acknowledges that a child safe organisation doesn’t just happen; it requires conscious action to protect children and young people from harm.
In line with Life Saving Victoria's Member Protection Policy, we require all members from the age of 18 years to hold a current Victorian Working With Children Check (WWCC) with Mentone LSC and LSV nominated on your WWCC as your volunteer organisations
WWCC Application Process
Go to the WWCC website
- APPLY for a new WWCC card – no charge for voluntary cards – takes 15 mins
- RENEW an existing card – can be renewed 6 months before expiry – takes 7 mins
- ADD a new organisation: Mentone LSC & Life Saving Victoria – takes 4 mins
- LINK your Teacher’s VIT card to WWCC – takes 5 mins

Occupational work codes:
42 (Clubs & Associations), 28 (Coaching and Tuition), 52 (Educational Institutions, other institutions providing children’s study or training programs)
It is not sufficient for a WWCC number alone to be provided to the club as this does not enable the Department of Justice to contact the Club and Life Saving Victoria in the event of any breaches of the Child Safety Act.
What to Do After You Apply
Once you lodge your application, you will receive a temporary receipt.
Please email a copy of this receipt to wwcc@mentonelsc.com so we can track the progress of your application while you wait for your official card to arrive in the mail.
Teachers and Police Officers are NOT Exempt From WWCC
Teachers and early childhood teachers registered with the Victoria Institute of Teaching (VIT) MUST notify Working With Children Check Victoria (WWCCV) of any child-related work they do outside of their teaching in a school or early childhood service, regardless of whether it is paid or voluntary work. If a teacher's VIT registration is suspended or cancelled, WWCCV will notify the relevant organisations that the teacher exemption no longer applies.
A registered teacher who does child-related work (other than teaching in a school or early childhood service) must notify WWCCV of this work by completing the Teacher Notification Form
