Greg Schmidt

When and why did you join Mentone LSC?
I joined Mentone LSC in 2011 after moving back to Melbourne from Singapore. Being from Missouri USA, I grew up near lakes and rivers but knew little about the ocean. I wanted to teach my daughters how to stay safe in the surf.

What roles have you had over your time at the Club?
My first role at Mentone was being a water marker for my youngest daughter (U7 at the time) on Nipper Sundays. The following week I volunteered to help coach the group. Since that first year I have held the following roles in the club; Coach, Junior Manager, Winter Nippers Manager, Mentone Seals Manager (intro to open water swimming / boarding), GM of Aquatic Sport, Patrol Captain and Committee Member.

What are you looking forward to this season at Mentone LSC?
We've built a fantastic group of volunteers, making this one of Victoria's top clubs for developing Nippers into outstanding young adults. We provide families the chance to contribute to both their development and the community through public service. I'm excited to expand our programs, offering youth opportunities to learn, engage, and grow through competition, mentorship, coaching, and patrol.
