JUNIOR (U8 to U13) COMPETITION
Mentone Life Saving Club has a strong junior competition history having won the Junior Victorian State Championships for the following seasons:

Mentone Performance Squad
As part of our Junior Athlete Development Program, Mentone LSC is pleased to offer additional training sessions in a variety of skill areas including Sand events, Board, Swim, Lifesaving Skills, general fitness.
These sessions are open to any Mentone LSC Junior U10-U14. Surf Sessions are for competent open water swimmers and boarders. Monday night Swimming at Bayside Aquatics is a great chance to participate with your Nipper. Parent assistance for coaching and water safety will be needed at sessions also.
Weekly Training Schedule (for sessions outside Nippers)
Seals – All Ages
This is an introduction to Board Paddling and Swimming. It is designed for the Nippers who are just beginning their lifesaving journey.
Fitness Group – Under 8’s and up
This is for kids who have completed their S badge swim and are independently able to swim to the first pole and back in to shore. They are also able to board paddle independently to pole one and down to pole two continuously. These kids will be working on race skills and are looking to complete in carnivals throughout the year.
Competition Group – Under 10’s to Under 13’s
This is for the serious Nipper who competes at carnivals. For Under 10 & 11 nippers, they must have reached a State Individual final in either the Swim or Board event to train in this group or be assessed by the Junior Coaching team to be competent and capable to train in this squad.

Parent Volunteer Assistance
LSV Carnivals are managed by volunteers. All clubs are required to provide water safety, officials, setup/packup volunteers. Parents will be needed at most carnivals to help out.
Competitive Swim Evaluation CSE (formerly S Badge)
All Junior athletes U12+ and U9-U11 athletes that are competing in Swim or Board events must complete their Competitive Swim Evaluation (CSE).
The CSE is a swim (distance based on age) in open water, continuous freestyle, to verify that competitors have the ability to race. A CSE is valid until the end of the following calendar year.
It is important to note that athletes (especially younger ones) need a good deal of practice to develop competency for swimming in surf.

Carnival Registration
Once you have had a chat to your Coach and Age Manager and decided to participate in a carnival you need to register your child.
You can do as many carnivals as you like during the season. After the close of each carnival registration timeline the coaches are provided the names of the Nippers who are competing in their age groups (if you have not paid your child will not be registered).
