Nippers Volunteers (Sunday Nippers and Competition)
Mentone LSC is run by volunteers. There are several volunteer roles in the club but none as rewarding as working with the Nippers through the Summer Season (early November until early March). We are looking for parents and teenagers who would like to assist with Sunday Nippers and with our Nippers at Junior Competition (aka Carnivals). If your child is a keen Nipper, this is a great way to share the experience with them. We will have Age Group teams for all our Nipper age Groups (U6 to U13).
No experience in lifesaving is needed. We will help train folks that are interested.
Roles include
- Nipper Age Manger – Coordinating and Managing Sunday Nippers for an Age Group
- Nipper Age Admin – Communications, records keeping helping with Sunday Nippers.
- Nipper Age Admin Assistant – Helping Age Admin
- Junior Sports Age Manager – Helping with Nipper Athletes at Junior Carnivals.
- Junior Sports Admin – Comms and management of age group related to Junior Carnivals.
You can do both Nipper and Sports roles or just one. A full description of the roles is below
Nipper Age Manager
Activities for this role include:
- Coordinating activities for Sunday Nippers for a single age group
- Leading groups through lesson plans at Sunday Nippers (we have documented lesson plans already available)
- Helping to teach Nippers basic lessons about ecology, lifesaving, sport and health
- Inspiring the next generation of community-service focussed young people
Nipper Age Admin
Activities for this role include:
- Checking Nippers in and out on Sundays
- Communications with Members of the age group
- Keeping electronic records (via web-based app) for Nippers in your assigned age group
Nipper Assistant Age Admin
Activities for this role include:
- Helping Age Admin
- Checking Nippers in and out on Sundays
Junior Sport Age Manager
Activities for this role include:
- Coordinating roles and responsibilities for your age group at Junior Competition
- Helping to organise Nipper Junior Athletes at Competitions
- Allocate athletes to teams at carnivals ( excluding State Champs), criteria as per Mentone LSC guidelines to Nipper participation at carnivals.
- Recommend athletes for consideration in team events for State Nipper Champs.
There are approximately 5 competitions through the year and a single state championship. This role would need to be available for most of the competitions. This person can also have the role of Nipper Age Manager concurrently.
Junior Sport Age Admin
Activities for this role include:
- Organising volunteers for roles at Junior Carnivals
- Communications with Nipper athletes who attend Junior Carnivals
- Keeping results for Nippers at Junior Carnivals
There are approximately 5 competitions through the year and a single state championship. This role would need to be available for most of the competitions. This person can also have the role of Nipper Age Admin concurrently.
Youth/Senior Mentor
The Youth/Senior Mentor role is meant for 14–21-year-old club members who would like to help with Nipper groups on Sundays and at Carnivals.
The mentors would ideally be SRC (Surf Rescue Certificate) or Bronze Medallion Certified. Mentone LSC has created a formal program of development for this role. As part of this role, Mentone LSC also provides recommendations regarding their participation for help with jobs, scholarships, or other external activities.
Activities for this role include:
- Working with Age Managers on executing lesson plans
- Teaching Nippers skills in lifesaving, first aid, sport (board, swim, beach)
- Developing skills as future leaders
