SURF BOATS
There is something uniquely Australian in the image of a boat crew, the sweep at the stern, rowing their way through the bay…and the bonus of dolphins playfully swimming up beside you. The camaraderie of a crew sharing blood, sweat and tears after a truly hard workout is immeasurable.
Intense regional, state and national boat competition together with the incredible commitment and enthusiasm of thousands of participants have kept this challenging and thrilling sport alive.
In fact Surf Boat Rowing is a booming culture within the Mentone LSC. Currently we have a number of female and male crews and we are working towards youth crews with the intention of all competing at State level.
We have coaches who show us how vital it is to have great technique, and of course brute strength helps. If crews wish to be genuinely competitive they will be training mornings and afternoon with their weekends spent travelling to competitions.
COMPETITIVE SURF BOAT ROWING
Surfboat Crew members must be volunteer Surf Lifesavers to compete. The rowing discipline commands a high level of fitness, commitment and skill. It complements the core set of competencies volunteer surf lifesavers must possess in order to obtain the Bronze Medallion qualification and patrol beaches. Competitions typically commence during November and run through to March.
Currently we are looking for youths 15+ years old to form male and female crews under our experienced coach, Joe Bergin. Surf Boat Rowing is a great way to keep connected to the club, stay healthy and make lifelong friends.
