Maroochydore Surf Skills Camp (Sunshine  Coast – QLD) with Clint Robinson

Maroochydore Sept Camp with Clint Robinson and Kerry Thomas.

This camp is technique and skill development camp for surf and swim skills for lifesaving athletes U10-Open.  This camp is ideal for those athletes that want to expand their skills in lifesaving sport but also develop a mindset that will help them improve in other areas (including those outside of sport).  For the training sessions we have a maximum of 1 instructor to 16 athletes.  Areas covered through the week including

  • Reading the surf and conditions
  • Race planning
  • Board
  • Swim
  • Board Rescue
  • Iron (including transition)
  • Ski (U17+)

Location

Sessions will be held at Maroochydore beach and in the Maroochydore river.  We may move beaches if conditions are too rough at Maroochydore.

Schedule

The week starts with a Sunday night (25 Sept 6pm) welcome dinner at Maroochydore Lifesaving club where Clint will lay out the objectives for the week.  We will have 2 sessions per day on Monday through Thursday and finish with a team carnival on Friday Sept 30.  We should be out of the water by 2pm on Friday 30 Sept.

Instructors

The overall program will be led by Clint Robinson.  Clint has been working with Mentone for nearly a decade.  In addition to being one of Australia’s top surf lifesaving coaches he has one over 50 Aussie Lifesaving titles, multiple medals in Olympic games and has won multiple global ocean paddling ski events. Clint is assisted by Kerry Thomas who has been a world champion in Swim, Iron and Ski.  Clint will draw on other coaches throughout our camp including Stephen Short who has won multiple Aussie Titles in swim and board rescue.

Skillsets Needed and Preparation for camp

The minimum skill need for this camp would be to be able to swim and board competently in 2-3 foot surf.  We are currently running sessions on Saturday for our U10-U13 and also for our Youth/Seniors.  We will also be travelling to the surf on Saturday afternoons (approx. once per month).  We also will be working with all the attendees to make sure that they are maintaining a good training program over winter.

Cost for Camp

Cost for camp (all training sessions) will be approx. $375. Board usage/transportation will be $80. Welcome dinner and one social event (bowling) cost is TBC.

Helpers through the week

We will need help through the week with Water Safety, Gear management and managing Nippers.
